Update and Newborn Pics

We are heading into Iris's 3 week birthday (on Monday)!  It's amazing how fast time is going!!!  I want her to stay small forever!  The past 2 1/2 weeks have been a struggle but we are so thankful for a healthy and happy baby that we can snuggle and love!

Iris had her 2 week pediatric appointment on Tuesday and she is now a total of 7 lbs and 6 oz!  She has gained a whopping 1 lb and 3 oz since birth!  My baby girl is growing like a weed!

We're still struggling with breastfeeding.  I have gone back and forth from pumping and nursing.  I do supplement a little formula when it seems like she's still starving.  Iris latches on well but she will nurse for 40 minutes to over an hour and still seem starving when I pull her off the breast to be finished or to burp her.  We started pumping so we could see how much she's taking in and seems to be more satisfied but the pediatrician wants me to go back to nursing since her weight is just fine!!!  I started using a nipple shield to help with her latch and it seems to be helping =)  But at nights, I get so exhausted with her nursing for an eternity that I find myself pumping at night while Doug feeds her pumped milk just so we all can go back to sleep.  I tried nursing last night with my nipple shield and was left so exhausted b/c she would nurse for 1 hr and be back up an hour or 2 later to do it all again!

Plus today, Doug went to work for a full day (he's not going back full time until next Wednesday) so Iris and I had the whole day to ourselves.  I thought it would go well...it did not.  She screamed and fought sleep the entire day.  She finally passed out at 3:30pm and slept for 2 hrs!!!  Even this evening she fought Doug and finally after being swaddled with 2 blankets and a full belly, she is now sleeping. Poor thing is exhausted and wore herself out!  We're hoping she sleeps great tonight!!  I just wish she could tell me what was wrong or what she needs!  She was spoiled all day yesterday b/c my mom was here and held her the entire day so she slept!!!  Darn grammie for spoiling her =)

But all in all, Iris is doing well and so are we!  It's amazing to see how we progress each week and how at first things seem to be so scary or the end of the world, only to find out that it's really not that big of a deal!  The first week, her screams and cries would freak us out and we would think she was hurt or something only to know now that she's just crying to cry or to fight sleep!!!  Babies should come with a user manual or an "idiots guide to parenting."  Being a first time parent is hard but I wouldn't change it for the world!  I love my baby girl =)

Ok...now on to her newborn pics!!!  I'm so happy we went ahead and did these!  They turned out great and I love how they captured her!  I will cherish these pictures always!!!!  She'll never be this small again! *tear*

Here are a few of my favorites!  There were many taken but these are just too precious!

Thanks MK Photo Studios for capturing our baby girl is such beautiful and precious ways!!

Just a preview =)

So, our little pride and joy is finally here and we are so in love!!!  Never have I thought I could love something so much!  We can just stare at her all day long!  We love to cuddle with her and just hold her!  We are all doing well and adjusting!  We were discharged from the hospital yesterday so today was our first full day at home!  We had our first pediatric appointment this afternoon and Iris is doing great!  She gained about 1/2 a pound in a day =)  She went from 6 lbs 3 oz down to 5 lbs and 13 oz when we were discharged and today was 6 lbs and 6 oz. Needless to say, my milk finally came in and Iris is addicted!!!  She prefers to nurse about every hour!  I love after she nurses b/c then she's in a milk coma and is just adorable!!!

Here's some pictures of our baby girl!

More 39 week pictures and our Date night!

On Friday, despite the pain, we decided to go out one last time!  We figured that Friday was our last night free to spend together before Iris arrives since I had to work the whole weekend!

Look at my little basketball =)

For dinner we went to Dirty Franks downtown.  It's a hot dog palace and was super yummy!

Pictures from google =)

I ate mine too fast to take a picture haha

I got the Chicago (tomatoes, onions, relish, mustard) with onion rings and cole slaw and Doug got a coney dog with some very yummy fries!!

Afterwards, we headed to Baby R Us to buy the car seat base for my car!
While walking around, I started to get some contractions and I swear I was going into labor!  So we quickly bought what we needed and headed to Target.  I figured we better get milk and last minute things since I figured I was heading to the hospital that night!  Then our last thing on our list was "sleepy Kittens" book for Iris.  So, we headed to Barnes and Nobles to get it.  This book is in the movie Despicable Me and it's so cute!  We just had to have it for Iris.

So, we bought it and headed home!  The contractions were still irregular and far apart but I was so hoping they would come strong!

THEY DID NOT!

Eventually by the morning, no more contractions and still none!

So, it looks like I'm working the weekend haha

Each day, I think it's going to be "the day" but sadly it is not.  We are getting so anxious and every time I feel a "pain" I get excited only to have it go away *lol*

But it's been nice to have a few more days of quietness and freedom!!!
Today, we are 4 days away from our due date!!!!

39 weeks

Boy have the past few days been difficult!  I have started to feel very uncomfortable and having lower back pain and a lot of pressure and burning pain in my pelvis.  It was so bad yesterday at work that I only lasted 4 1/2 hrs. I was lucky to be able to leave quickly to get home and relax.  My patients (who I have had the past 3 days) were noticing that I wasn't doing so well so I ended up taking the rest of the day off!  I was curious to see if I would be going into labor but have not yet!

We had our 39 week OB appointment this morning!  I told our OB about the pain and discomfort so we were all anxious to see if I had progressed and I had!  My cervix is FINALLY thinning and I'm 50% effaced!  I'm still only 1 cm dilated but she said she's more concerned about my pelvis thinning than me actually dilating!  The head is still down and has dropped more so that is great as well!  We talked what the next step is.  She is hopeful that I will go any day now but she said she wanted to wait until I'm past my due date to do any induction.  She is scheduling us for around the 13th if I haven't had Iris yet.  She doesn't want me going way past my due date.  We'll find out the exact date at our next appointment (April 8th).  But we are all hoping that I go on my own way before then!  I left the appointment feeling a little deflated!  I was hoping for better news (more dilation) and was hoping she would induce me a lot sooner but I have to be patient and know that she's doing what is best for Iris at the moment!

I gained 3 lbs this past week (must be from all the cake I have been eating this week haha) and that gives me a grand total of 19 lbs!!!  Not bad!  She also measured Iris with her hands and think she's 6 lbs now and will probably be about 6.5 or 6.6 come delivery!!!!  She's doing great and measuring well!!!!  We're so thankful for a healthy baby girl and pregnancy!

Tonight, despite me feeling so painful, we are going to hit up Baby R Us to buy the car seat base for my car and try to WALK WALK WALK to see if we can induce labor!  I'm making Doug take me Jeni's for some ice cream and just enjoy our potentially last date night out before Iris arrives!!!

Here's a 39 week picture that Doug took yesterday from my phone!
Mom wanted me to send her one to see if I have dropped!
I hope to get a better one tonight!

Ok Iris, the sun is shinning and there is no longer snow on the ground!
You can come out now!
You have some very impatient nana's that want to meet you along with your ever so anxious mom and dad!
