Up and running soon!

Well, not literally =)
So, I found out that the extra storage is needed if I ever want to post any more pictures on my blog! Thanks for your help and comments fellow bloggers!

It's only $5/year and I have a limit for 10,000 pics roughly. I hope I don't go over that haha. But those who know me well know it's a possibility =)

I also learned how to blog from my phone (which I'm doing now) so I can post pics from here!!!

So, I will be back to posting pics and probably blogging a lot more now!!! Love technology when it works!!!

Update on us:
We are doing great!!! Iris is growing like a weed and is doing so much more! It's hard to believe she'll be 2 months this coming week!!!

We are adjusting much better to a family of 3!!! I have been getting out more and doing lots with just her and I! I haven't ventured to the store together yet but we had our first mall trip on Wednesday to visit my cousin Sara and her baby Ashton!!! That was great! Iris did amazingly well!

I will miss my unlimited time with her when I go back to work on June 13th!!!I'm not ready at all!!! I will miss iris so much but I need to get back to my other passion, being a nurse!!

Update on the pets:
Wesley is still at grandma's (he's been there since the day we were dc from the hospital). We plan to get him before I return to work. He's crazy when it comes to the baby and barks nonstop. He needed a few weeks away so I could keep my sanity and Doug and I could focus on the baby.

Lola is doing better. I still debate getting rid of her daily bc she's too much to handle at times. Plus, she does "ok" with the baby but she is so curious and loud that she can't be left alone with her or iris will be licked to death. Plus, she's not as gentle as I thought she would be. She gets too excited and keeps pushing her way closer so I end up locking her in the kitchen with the baby gate or putting her in our bathroom. It's not fair to her to be locked up all the time so we're still not sure about her. I hate to get rid of her but she needs a nice country home to be free to run and explore instead of our tiny condo!

Lynx almost found a new home but he's back with us!!! I think the weekend away did him some good and he seems to be slightly less of a jerk now =)

As for the ferret, he is in ferret heaven! We found out he had cancer when he no longer would use his back legs so we had him put to sleep! VERY sad day!!!

Wow, seems like our pets have had quite the adjustment as well!!! Poor guys! I feel bad but our priorities totally shifted when iris came into our lives!!

So, that's a quick update!!! I will post more about our lil peanut this week for her 2 month post! There also might be a few exciting changes coming but I will update on that later as well! Too soon to say!

Iris and daddy playing!

Iris is usually happy in the morning! Today she was talking and smiling at daddy!

Products that I love (for the momma's out there)

Here are 2 things that I just love and have been the best purchases!  I have a friend who recommended these to me and actually got me a set of the bibs for my shower gift.  Love them!!!  So, I just had to spread the word!!! =)

You can find them at Buy Buy Baby or at Amazaon.com/mom (can get free 2 day shipping!!!)

http://www.adenandanais.com/shop/classic.aspx

These swaddle blankets are the best!  They are super big and thin and make the best nursing covers as well!  With going into warmer months, these blankets are nice and thin to keep baby cool when swaddling and you both don't sweat to death when you use one to cover you as you nurse!

These burpy bibs are great!  They are big enough to cover your entire shoulder and have a little snap that when the baby is bigger, you can snap it around their neck to collect drool and spit up!

Iris's first trip to the Columbus Zoo!

Today, we got to finally use our FAMILY zoo pass!!!  Doug and I have gone but to finally have all 3 of us there together was pretty special!!! =)

The day started with going to garage sales around the neighborhood and we found Iris some clothes and some cute baby toys.  This child DOES NOT need anymore clothes or toys but we couldn't resist =)  She also got the cutest little swim suit and pink sandals!!!  She did well, we put her in the stroller and just walked around and she pretty much slept the whole time.

We went back home around lunch time, fed her and were on the way to the zoo!!!  The weather could not have been any better!  70's and sunny!  When we go to the zoo, it was slightly over cast at times so I didn't have to keep her covered as much. She did WONDERFULLY!!!  She was alert most of the time.  I carried her for about half the visit and she slept in there a bit but then when we put her back in her stroller, she sat and looked around, talked to us and moved her arms a lot!  So cute!!!  She loved the aquarium!  She could see the lights and really stared at the big aquarium!

When we got there, we bought her a hat to keep the sun off her face and when we left, we got her a little monkey =)  She was a good baby so we had to reward her!!!

her zoo outfit!!!
It has zoo animals on it =)

Iris and momma!

she LOVED the penguins Aunt Bre!!!

Afterwards, we went home and all took a 4 1/2 hr nap!!!
*lol*
We needed it!!!

She was getting a bit fussy towards the end b/c she was hungry
so we didn't get a "family" photo with Doug =(
Next time!

6 week check-up!

I cannot believe Iris is 6 weeks already!  Almost 7 weeks as I'm finally finding time to write this!

This past Monday, I had my OB check-up and everything went well!  I'm finally getting back to my old self.  My incision looks great and I really have no complaints other than it is still a bit tender but I haven't needed any medication (ibuprofen) for about 2 weeks!!!  I also was so anxious to get weighed.  At home, I saw that I lost weight but I was curious to see what their scales said since that's what I have been going with since I was pregnant.  So, I gained 19 lbs and got up to 157 lbs!!!!  I ended up losing 25 lbs and am down to 132 which was much less than I started with pre-pregnancy!!!  I was thrilled!!!  Thank you breastfeeding!!!!

I took Iris to the appointment and she was so cute!  She got a bit fussy once I got into the room so my OB took her on a tour of the place and pretty much held her until she did my exam!  Have I told you how much I LOVE my OB?! =)  We did discuss the possibility of us having more children and if I could do a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) and she said that the odds were against me.  With Iris being such a tiny baby and not being able to birth her, she felt more comfortable just doing a c-section again. I'm okay with that so we'll just have to see if we decide on more children down the road!

Afterwards, I went next door to where I work part-time at the Internal Medicine office (when they need me!).  I was there for over an hour showing her off to the staff and doctors.  She did well!!!  She was so awake so everyone got to see her pretty blue eyes!!!

As for Iris, she's doing great!  She is beginning to coo more and is a lot more alert.  During the day, I struggle to get her to nap.  I found that if I put her in her swing in the bathroom, I can jump in the shower quickly. If she gets fussy, I can turn on the hair dryer and she'll get quiet! =)  She loves to suck on her hands still and it's so precious!!!  She also goes to town on her paci!  Sounds like maggie simpson!  She loves car rides and doesn't fuss much when we put her in her car seat.  She'll look around and eventually fall asleep.  But if we stop at a light, she gets annoyed and wants bounced more so she'll fuss!  It's hysterical!  We're lucky to have a baby that loves car rides!

She also began to look at us and smile when she hears our voices.  Most precious thing ever!  Doug got her to smile at him yesterday!!!!  I can talk with her and she will smile so big.  She has always smiled but now, we can induce it instead of her doing it on her own.  She will just lock eyes with me and follow me.  Never have I thought I would be in love so much.  I knew having a baby would be wonderful but never have I thought how amazing it would be!!!

We couldn't be happier!!!

This is my little peanut! =)

Mother's Day 2011

For Mother's Day, we went home for a cook-out at Garbry Woods.  It turned out to be a beautiful day!
We loaded up some cook-out foods and headed towards home!  We spent the afternoon with Doug's family.  We ate and sat out in the sun and visited!  It was a great day!

Afterwards, we stopped in to visit with my momma.  Iris and I had spent the day with her on Wednesday so we surprised them by stopping in again on Sunday!

My first Mother's Day photo!

For Mother's Day, Doug watched Iris while I went to see Something Borrowed with Bre and then he surprised me with a beautiful pearl necklace.  Iris got mommy matching earrings =)

I had the best Mother's Day =)

Bath time!

Until recently, Iris hated bath time.  She would scream bloody murder!

Until we found out a trick....feed her first =)  Seems simple enough...right?!?

My plan was that after she wakes, change her diaper, do all the things before feeding!  That way, she can go to sleep with a full belly.  BUT Iris wanted it the other way around.  She wants fed first before anything else happens.  So, now that we figured this out, bath time has been calmer!!!

her facial expressions crack me up!

all clean!

Iris 1 Month

It's hard to believe Iris is 5 weeks already!  Where has the time gone?!?  Most of it has gone to snuggling and bouncing the princess!  She loves to move and hates it when you stop!

I wanted to do a little catch up as well with this post.  It's really hard to find the time to sit down and blog.  I had so much free time before Iris haha  Now, I'm lucky to keep updated thanks to my Iphone.  If it wasn't for that, I would not be up to date with emails.  Sadly, my blog has been slacking since I can't upload photos from my phone to the blog (or I can't figure it out).  So, when Doug is rocking Iris at night after she eats, is when I get a little bit of free time to do laundry, pick up the house, and if time allows, blog a little!

Here are her stats from the last few weeks!

  • At birth, she weighed 6 lbs and 3 oz.  and 19 1/4 inches long.
  • When we left the hospital on April 7th, she was down to 5 lbs 13 oz.  (it's normal for breastfed babies to loose weight initally).
  • On April 8th, we saw our pediatrician and she was 6 lbs. and 6 oz (yes, I know that's a huge jump in 1 day but it was different scales so there is room for error) and 18 " long.  Again, different scales
  • At her 2 week check-up (April 19th), she weighed 7 lbs and 4 oz!  She's an eating machine!!!
  • At her 1 month (May 6th) check-up, she weighed 8 lbs and 9 oz and 20 1/4 inches long!!!

Clothes:  Up until this week, she has been in newborns but some of her sleepers are getting a bit tight so we have ventured into her 0-3 month stash!  It makes me a little sad to be doing this since she's not my tiny baby anymore!  The 0-3 months are a bit long still so her legs sometimes gets lost or her arms but we make do!  I fear she's going to be short petite like her momma!!!  She also was upgraded on Sunday to size 1 diapers!  No more newborn diapers *tear*

Food:  Iris is nursing well as you can tell by her recent weight gain!  We have a chunky monkey on our hands!!!  She nurses about every 3-4 hrs and sometimes we can stretch it to 5 at night!  She nurses for 30 minutes now instead of the hour so I'm thankful for that!  She is strictly getting breastmilk now.  I have not had to supplement with formula for the past 2 weeks.  We have formula on hand and if we are out and about, we can give it but I'm doing much better with nursing in public.  I still struggle to keep myself covered and get her latched on but that will come with practice I'm sure!!!

Sleep:  Iris is doing better since we started getting her on a schedule.  At first, we were like, what do we do with her but as the weeks go on, we're getting accustomed to it all! =)  At night we strive to get her to bed between 8 and 9pm and she'll usually sleep until midnight or 1pm.  Occasionally, if I can turn her vibrator on in her napper and give her a paci, she might sleep until 2 am.  Then she will eat and go back to sleep and won't get up until between 5 and 7am.  Again, it all depends on if I can keep her happy a few more hours.  Usually, after this feeding, I'll bring her in bed with me and we'll snuggle to get a few more hours of sleep in.

During the day, she cat naps most of the day and will fight sleep constantly!  This girl does not like to be put down!!!!  I can get her to nap or just lay and be happy on her belly so I can get things done but she really only take a long nap (2 hrs) once in the day and the time always varies.  All her other naps are a short 30 minutes here or there.  If I nap with her, she'll take longer ones and more of them but as soon as I lay her down to shower or do anything, her eyes pop open!  Little booger!  But I'm learning a few tricks and trying a few different things to see if I can get her to nap more.

Activity:  She prefers to be on the move.  She likes to be bounced, rocked, anything that requires movement!  She also loves car rides!!!  The relax her so much and she'll look around and then eventually pass out!!!

She has started cooing more.  It began 2 weeks ago but it didn't happen often.  But this week, she really started to coo and started to focus more on light and objects.  When I change her diaper, she'll get bright eyed when I turn her little elephant toy on b/c his cheeks light up and it plays music.  She also will respond to our voices.  It's really cute!  We started tummy time and playing on the mat on Thursday.  She seemed to like it!  She is so strong and has been holding her head up since day 1!!!

Kicking...

See my tongue?

Love her little face!

Personality:  This girl is definitely all girl!  As Doug says, "she can go from 0 to 60 in no time."  One minute she'll be happy and the next she'll get to throwing a fit.  Kicking and grabbing!  She is so sweet and cuddly too!  I love to nurse her and then put her up on my shoulder.  She'll lay her head on my shoulder or chest and wrap her arms around me.  Totally melts my heart!!

I promise to be good...

nope...I hate this!

and she's about to scream again!

Easter 2011

For Iris's first Easter, we went to my Sister's to see my side of the family and then to Doug's mom's house to see his side of the family!  It was a huge challenge to get to both places (not in the same city) on time but we made it!!!
