Grant Interview

I had my interview with the trauma position at Grant today and I thought it went really well!  I actually like it a lot more than I thought.  The nurse manager was amazing and held a lot of the same values that I believe in.  The staff was exceptional!!  I got an opportunity to ask 2 RNs anything about the floor and nurse manager.  I liked what they had to say!!! =)

Brad, the HR person said he will let me know either way on Tuesday.  They have only 4 positions open and about 15 or so RN's who are applying for it.  I tried to sell myself the best I could.  So, hopefully between Grant and Riverside, I'll have a job by Tuesday!!!!
You know you're a trauma nurse if... Throw Pillow
Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Doug took another personal day off tomorrow and we are heading to Hocking Hills to unwind and relax a bit.  Things have been so stressful at Doug's work since they recently went to electronic records and with my job search, we are so excited for a day away!!!

Waiting...hopefully it will come to and end soon =)

Usually I hate being woken up in the morning by my phone, but today, I gladly welcomed the phone call at 8:30 am!!!  I recognized the number and quickly ran out of the bedroom and Doug (he took a personal day off today) quickly turned off the fan.  I tried to collect myself so it wouldn't sound like I just woke up *lol*  In my ever so pleasant and "no I haven't been asleep voice", I said "hello."  It was the HR recruiter from Riverside calling me back.  I had left her and the nurse manager for the cardiac position a voice mail just to check on the progress.  They said they were going to call me at the beginning of the week so I have been patiently (well, some what) waiting and checking my phone a thousand times a day!

I was very happy that HR finally returned my phone call!!  She was super nice and told me not to worry.  The hold up was the program used to get my past employment history and education history.  It apparently did not do it's job so she had to restart the program yesterday.  She said once they get the information they need, they play to move VERY QUICKLY!!!!  I like the sound of that!!!  So, hopefully she will get the results today and either call this afternoon or tomorrow!  **fingers crossed**

On a 2nd note, I have my interview with Grant this afternoon for the trauma position.  I was hoping to not have to go to this interview since I REALLY want the Riverside job but looking at it differently, I will get to see what Grant has to offer and maybe get to pick between the jobs!!!  Funny how things work out a little differently than planned, huh?!?

So, I am hanging out for the next few hours at home.  I already have a dress picked out and everything for it.  After the interview I have a drug rep dinner at Eddie Merlot's tonight with some of my co-workers =)  Nothing better than a free meal full of fillet mignon and endless glasses of wine!!!  I need that after such a crazy few weeks!  I'm just glad to have something happy to toast to tonight!!

Good things come to those who wait =)

I received a call today from Grant Hospital (part of Ohio Health) and they asked me to come in next Thursday for an interview with HR and the nurse manager for their trauma ICU step down!!!!!!!!  I have 2 classmates/friends who just got a job there and I was able to get an interview through one of those friends!!!  So, we'll see!!!  She said it's a tough unit because it's mostly gun shot victims and she said they are mouthy.  Probably gang members or something!

Grant is a level 1 trauma hospital in downtown Columbus.  So, that means they get the worst of the worst!  So, in the trauma step down, I'm sure I'll see it all!  I'm going to talk to Karen some more tonight.  She's going to fill me in to see if it would be a fit.  I'm not too tough *lol*  It would be a great learning opportunity to be taking care of such unstable patients!!!

Job update...

Sorry for leaving you all hanging after I said I had an interview on Monday!  So, I wanted to fill you all in on what's going on =)  I met with the nurse manager and charge nurse on 3 Heart at Riverside on Monday.  She gave me some info on the unit and discussed how it ran and went over all those interview topics.  I then shadowed a nurse for about 4 hrs.  I really liked the unit.  It's fast paced so that is nice.

3 Heart is part of McConnell Heart Hospital at Riverside.  It's a big unit.  About 100 beds total but 3 heart shares some of that with CACU (patients going down for cath lab and such).  So, 3 heart is a focused floor with cardiac patients who are on telemetry (heart monitors).  Most of them have some sort of heart arrhythmia and heart problem and are going down for some sort of procedure such as a pacemaker, stress tests, etc.  They receive most of their patients right from ER and stay on our floor to continue their evaluation.  The girl that I shadowed had 4 patients and towards the end, she only had 1 left on the floor b\c 2 were in a procedure and 1 was discharged *lol*

The nurse manager asked me what shift and I decided on 12 hr night shift because that's one of the positions she had available.  I will work 3 days a week with every other weekend.  The nights will be hard but the shift differential pay will be so nice to pay off those loans!!! =)  I can always switch to days later!

So, after I left the interview...I really didn't have any clue how it went. The nurse manager was in a meeting so I thanked everyone for having me and left.  As soon as I got to work, I sent the nurse manager an e-mail thanking her.  She responded by saying the next step is to check references.

The only problem is that she's away on a conference all this week and won't be back until Monday...ugh!  So, I put things on hold a bit.
***********************************************
Today, the HR recruiter called and told me that the nurse manager had contacted her (while she was away!!!) and wanted to pursue me.  She said it went really well and wanted to check my past employment and check my references.  So, the HR is doing that today.  She said that they should have a decision at the beginning of the week!!!! =)

Job search update

Hey everyone!  I just wanted to update you all on my job search!  I received a call 2 weeks ago from the HR department with Ohio Health and they wanted to meet with me and go over some possible job opportunities! So, that was yesterday!  The interview went really well.  She asked me all those annoying interview questions and we looked at some job postings and we decided on medical/surgical jobs to start.  I wanted to do labor & delivery but she wouldn't even consider that one *lol*  So, maybe in a year, I can transfer there!!  But we did decide to focus on cardiac (heart).  I really enjoyed my cardiac ICU rotation so we found some jobs that were medical/surgical but with a focus on cardiovascular.  I left the interview and she said she would contact the recruiter for those floors and try to set me up with an interview soon!

Well, she called this morning and I meet with the nurse manager of that floor on Monday at 9am!!!  She said some nurse managers like you to shadow the unit also but she's going to let me know if I have to do that!!

So excited!  Riverside was one of the hospitals that I really wanted to work for.  Riverside is part of Ohio Health and Fortune 100 jobs. It's one of their largest hospitals with over 1,000 beds.  It's also magnet status which is a huge honor to have.  Most of their nurses are bachelors prepared (which is where my BSN comes to play) or Master's prepared!!!  So, I will eventually go back to school to get my Master's degree!!  They do offer tuition reimbursement.  If I qualify, I can get the whole 2 years paid or just a part of it =)

So, hopefully Monday will go well!  The soonest I could start is April 26th but that might be too soon to get all the paperwork completed so if that does not work, then May 10th would be my start date!  They also will put me into their internship program which will give me 12 weeks of intense classroom and on-site training!!!  FANTASTIC!

**keep your fingers crossed that all will go well on Monday**

This is how we do weekends!

Doodie poof got a hair cut and groomed =)  Thanks to mommy's mad skills to getting all the extra poof out and shaping up his poof!!  He's not finished but I think it's a good start!
He has his very own "up do poof" =)

We even weeded and mulched our flowerbeds!  Getting them all ready to plant here in a few months!  All the snow did some damage to our little box woods but in a few weeks, I'm sure they will grow and you'll never notice!  Our hydrangeas will be so pretty this summer!

Lola likes to keep a watch out for all those possible bad dogs and people in the world!  She usually drives us nuts b/c she goes crazy when a neighbor dog walks by!

There's always nap time...

So, that about sums up our weekend!!!  Was pretty productive I think =)

Birthday Fun

On April 10th, I turned 27!  I was very nervous about that birthday.  Not sure why but maybe the fact that I am slowly inching my way towards 30.  So, without much planned I left the day pretty much open to do whatever with Doug!!

The birthday weekend began on Friday when I headed to St. Paris for a book sale at their local library!  My oh my how much I love books!  I bought a whole bag full for only $6!  Kate treated me to lunch at Braden's where I got a yummy lunch and my favorite smoothie!  Plus the company of Abbey and sweet baby Addie!

On Saturday, I woke up with a few text messages and then a call from Doug trying to wake me up.  He made me pancakes for breakfast and on the table was a dozen pink roses and a card!

They were so pretty!  He and the dogs sang "happy birthday" to me!

The card on the other hand, was a different story!  The card was for my 40th birthday!  I should have killed him or have been so dramatic and cried but I just laughed.  Little booger knows I'm nervous about 30 and I can't even imagine 40 (no offense to those of you 30+)

After going back to bed...that' what we do on weekends =) We finally got up around noon and headed to Panera to pick up lunch and have a picnic at Goodale Park in Downtown Columbus!  It was beautiful there!  It was full of people b/c they were having Sabbath at the park and there were singers and even a band.  We also noticed a LAIR fight (those of you who have seen Role Models know what I'm talking about hehe).  I tried to get closer pictures but failed.  Once we got up to walk around, they were already leaving.

 Soaking up some sun!

It was the perfect day!!!  The sun was shinning and there was a nice breeze!  The picnic at the park was so nice.  Of course we did do photo hour =)  We took tons of pictures of trees and of me but I'll only share my favorite...

The magnolias were in full bloom and it was gorgeous!!

After walking around the park, we decided to go home!  We relaxed at home for a bit then headed to the $2 movie theater off of Bethel to see It's Complicated.  That is one of the most hysterical movies I have seen in a long time!  I highly recommend it! =)  I think the most fun was laughing at the older women in front of us.  They were so funny!

Once we got home, Doug iced the cake he made me earlier and we enjoyed it!  Of course, I picked out the Fun Fetti cake b/c I love the colors and it now comes with icing with sprinkles for the top!!  woohoo

All in all, I had one of the best birthdays!!!  It was so low key and relaxing and it was nice just to do what Doug and I wanted.  I couldn't have asked for any better weather!  Thanks for those of you who called to wish me Happy Birthday, sent text messages, and spent time with me =)

You really know how to make a girl feel special!

Good News!!!!!!!

Today, I just knew it was going to be a good day! =)  I have been hoping and praying that for my birthday, I'll get a job!  Well, this afternoon I received a phone call today from Ohio Health and they want me to come in for an interview!!!  Thank goodness!  Finally a job in Ohio =)  My interview is next Thursday (April 15th) at 10am! I asked what the job was for and she said that is what they want to discuss with me.  I have over 50 applications with them so I'm a bit embarrassed to go in now *lol*  She also asked what shift I wanted and I told her I was open to doing nights, weekend, holidays...  She just laughed and so I told her I was pretty flexible!

So, keep me in your thoughts!  I'm so happy for finally getting an opportunity to interview with a hospital in Columbus.  This has been a long and hard 4 months of searching.  I hope something comes of the interview next Thursday!

I'll keep you posted =)

My RN License

Last few pictures of Texas

These little birds make the weirdest sound!  Kind of a cross between a high pitch yelp and a child being run over.  Every time I heard it, it made me jump =)

Brownsville Airport!  Only has 2 gates *lol*

The Jet I took to Dallas =)
