Grant Interview

I had my interview with the trauma position at Grant today and I thought it went really well!  I actually like it a lot more than I thought.  The nurse manager was amazing and held a lot of the same values that I believe in.  The staff was exceptional!!  I got an opportunity to ask 2 RNs anything about the floor and nurse manager.  I liked what they had to say!!! =)

Brad, the HR person said he will let me know either way on Tuesday.  They have only 4 positions open and about 15 or so RN's who are applying for it.  I tried to sell myself the best I could.  So, hopefully between Grant and Riverside, I'll have a job by Tuesday!!!!
You know you're a trauma nurse if... Throw Pillow
Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Doug took another personal day off tomorrow and we are heading to Hocking Hills to unwind and relax a bit.  Things have been so stressful at Doug's work since they recently went to electronic records and with my job search, we are so excited for a day away!!!

Waiting...hopefully it will come to and end soon =)

Usually I hate being woken up in the morning by my phone, but today, I gladly welcomed the phone call at 8:30 am!!!  I recognized the number and quickly ran out of the bedroom and Doug (he took a personal day off today) quickly turned off the fan.  I tried to collect myself so it wouldn't sound like I just woke up *lol*  In my ever so pleasant and "no I haven't been asleep voice", I said "hello."  It was the HR recruiter from Riverside calling me back.  I had left her and the nurse manager for the cardiac position a voice mail just to check on the progress.  They said they were going to call me at the beginning of the week so I have been patiently (well, some what) waiting and checking my phone a thousand times a day!

I was very happy that HR finally returned my phone call!!  She was super nice and told me not to worry.  The hold up was the program used to get my past employment history and education history.  It apparently did not do it's job so she had to restart the program yesterday.  She said once they get the information they need, they play to move VERY QUICKLY!!!!  I like the sound of that!!!  So, hopefully she will get the results today and either call this afternoon or tomorrow!  **fingers crossed**

On a 2nd note, I have my interview with Grant this afternoon for the trauma position.  I was hoping to not have to go to this interview since I REALLY want the Riverside job but looking at it differently, I will get to see what Grant has to offer and maybe get to pick between the jobs!!!  Funny how things work out a little differently than planned, huh?!?

So, I am hanging out for the next few hours at home.  I already have a dress picked out and everything for it.  After the interview I have a drug rep dinner at Eddie Merlot's tonight with some of my co-workers =)  Nothing better than a free meal full of fillet mignon and endless glasses of wine!!!  I need that after such a crazy few weeks!  I'm just glad to have something happy to toast to tonight!!

Good things come to those who wait =)

I received a call today from Grant Hospital (part of Ohio Health) and they asked me to come in next Thursday for an interview with HR and the nurse manager for their trauma ICU step down!!!!!!!!  I have 2 classmates/friends who just got a job there and I was able to get an interview through one of those friends!!!  So, we'll see!!!  She said it's a tough unit because it's mostly gun shot victims and she said they are mouthy.  Probably gang members or something!

Grant is a level 1 trauma hospital in downtown Columbus.  So, that means they get the worst of the worst!  So, in the trauma step down, I'm sure I'll see it all!  I'm going to talk to Karen some more tonight.  She's going to fill me in to see if it would be a fit.  I'm not too tough *lol*  It would be a great learning opportunity to be taking care of such unstable patients!!!

Job update...

Sorry for leaving you all hanging after I said I had an interview on Monday!  So, I wanted to fill you all in on what's going on =)  I met with the nurse manager and charge nurse on 3 Heart at Riverside on Monday.  She gave me some info on the unit and discussed how it ran and went over all those interview topics.  I then shadowed a nurse for about 4 hrs.  I really liked the unit.  It's fast paced so that is nice.

3 Heart is part of McConnell Heart Hospital at Riverside.  It's a big unit.  About 100 beds total but 3 heart shares some of that with CACU (patients going down for cath lab and such).  So, 3 heart is a focused floor with cardiac patients who are on telemetry (heart monitors).  Most of them have some sort of heart arrhythmia and heart problem and are going down for some sort of procedure such as a pacemaker, stress tests, etc.  They receive most of their patients right from ER and stay on our floor to continue their evaluation.  The girl that I shadowed had 4 patients and towards the end, she only had 1 left on the floor b\c 2 were in a procedure and 1 was discharged *lol*

The nurse manager asked me what shift and I decided on 12 hr night shift because that's one of the positions she had available.  I will work 3 days a week with every other weekend.  The nights will be hard but the shift differential pay will be so nice to pay off those loans!!! =)  I can always switch to days later!

So, after I left the interview...I really didn't have any clue how it went. The nurse manager was in a meeting so I thanked everyone for having me and left.  As soon as I got to work, I sent the nurse manager an e-mail thanking her.  She responded by saying the next step is to check references.

The only problem is that she's away on a conference all this week and won't be back until Monday...ugh!  So, I put things on hold a bit.
***********************************************
Today, the HR recruiter called and told me that the nurse manager had contacted her (while she was away!!!) and wanted to pursue me.  She said it went really well and wanted to check my past employment and check my references.  So, the HR is doing that today.  She said that they should have a decision at the beginning of the week!!!! =)
