Weekend Recap

I was so excited to have a 3 day weekend!  I usually end up working Sunday night so I was please to have it off and enjoy a full weekend with my lover =)

Friday started with me staying over at work 4 hrs and working a full 16 hr shift!  Holy cow was I tired!  I allowed myself to have about 4 oz of coffee at work and was buzzing around just nicely *lol*  Iris was doing gymnastics in my belly as well!  I got off and had to pick up cat food at target then I headed home to sleep!  Got up at 3pm to shower and get ready for a Bath and Body Works survey that I was picked for!  I made $50 plus a $25 B & BW gift card that I was gladly excited to blow on the spot =)  A co-worker sent me the email and all I had to do was fill it out.  I was picked and had to go to a store and talk about a new display.  Lasted 30 minutes!!!  Nice!

Since I was running on about 3 hrs of sleep, I begged Doug to go out to dinner and that we couldn't stop moving or I was going to pass out haha  So, he took me to Piada!  A new restaurant on Lane Ave.
And boy was it YUMMY!!!

The website is www.mypiada.com

It's like Chipotle but with Italian food =)  I filled myself to the rim with one of these!
(again pics from google)
I was too hungry to stop and take a picture haha

Plus spinach and artichoke dip!  Yum!

Then I HAD to have dessert so he took me to Jeni's =)
Oh how I love Jeni's

I picked from their new bakeshop flavors and had bananas & honey with Honey & buttercake!
Doug even ventured away from his Gravel Road or Salty Carmel and got Brumbleberry!!!

TO DIE FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On Saturday, we slept in and shopped around a bit and I heated up loaded baked potato soup that I had made earlier in the week.
On Sunday, Doug made me homemade waffles and baked Ziti!  I was still craving dessert so I made a chocolate cake *lol*

We ate so good this weekend and I'm so determined to have gained more weight at my OB appointment to make my OB happy!  Poor Doug should not have his cholesterol checked anytime soon!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend full of yummy food as well =)

30 week OB appointment

On Monday, Doug and I went to our 30 week appointment!  Eek!  Where has the time gone?  Just 10 weeks away from being parents and having Iris with us!  We are beyond thrilled!!!!

My appointment went well!  We got to meet Dr. Turner this time.  They have us meet the other OB in the practice because Dr. Pool or Dr. Turner will be the ones to deliver Iris.  Dr. Turner was so great!!!  We really liked her as well!  We're so happy with that practice!

We listened to Iris's heartbeat which was 142!!!  She's always in the 140's and doing great!  She measured my belly and we're right on target!  We talked about me doing fetal kick counts which is so easy b/c Iris is constantly moving now!  She was practicing kick boxing this week!  Ouch!

We also discussed my weight...I'm not sure why I keep struggling to gain but we're going to have to really work at it.  I only gained 1 lb this past month.  So, that makes a total of 8 lb gain since my 8 week OB visit (the normal pregnancy weight gain in 40 weeks is about 25 lbs).  She's not too concerned at the moment since the baby seems to be active and measuring right on target but if I don't gain more by the next visit (in 2 weeks...yikes!) then they might consider doing an ultrasound to really check and make sure Iris is growing and staying healthy.

So, I have been trying to pack on the calories as much as I can *lol*  I still strive to eat healthy but have been craving sweets so I don't hesitate and eat what I want =)  She told Doug to follow me around and remind me to eat snacks haha Monday for lunch, I ate 2 peanut butter and Jelly sandwiches instead of just 1!  I think a lot of it has to do with my sleep and work schedule so hopefully when I change shifts in 2 weeks, I'll get on a better schedule and start gaining more!

We just ended our last monthly OB visits and will now start going every 2 weeks!!!!

30 week baby bump pictures!

Getting ready for baby!

Doug and I bought our car seat/travel system this past weekend!  With being 10 weeks away, we figured we better get the car seat now!  Target had it on sale and one of the stores didn't even have it on display anymore (coming out with a newer model and we don't like the newer one) and another store was out of it so we headed to a 3rd Target who had it in stock!  We hated to wait any longer to get it in case they would be sold out.  Babies R Us had it but in a different color and about $50 more so we jumped at the chance!  We have the stroller that my mom and Steve were so nice to buy for us that we will use when Iris gets a bit bigger.  Our car seat fits into this one and the stroller lays flat for an infant!

Now we are officially ready for Iris to arrive!  We have the car seat and can't wait to put it in the daddy wagon =)  Currently, it's built and sitting in our living room and we keep checking but there's still no baby in it!!!

Doug building it

Wesley and Lola testing it out!

Daddy practicing!

Momma practicing!
(don't mind my pj's.  I'm all about mismatch and comfort these days!)

We have a new Nephew!!!!

Meet Grayson!!!

Born on January 20th!

My sister-in-law had an exciting and quick delivery!  They almost didn't make it to the hospital in time!!!
7 minutes after they arrived, Grayson was born!

He's so precious and a little snuggle bug!
I stole him and held him for a long time!!!

Don't you just love his cocoon!
My MIL knitted that for him and is making Iris one as well!
Super soft and oh so snuggly!

Welcome to the world Grayson!

Shift Change!!!! *Finally* and an emotional week!

Shift change:
I picked up my new schedule last night at work and was please to see that I'm scheduled for evening shift (3pm-11pm) now!!!!  I'm so excited to get my sleep schedule back a bit and to be on a more normal schedule with the rest of the world!  I'll miss having dinner with Doug every night but knowing that I'll be able to snuggle next to him after he has fallen asleep is nice to know!  I'll also miss working with my amazing co-workers but I will still see them from 7pm to 11pm!  Just won't be the same!  My new shift starts on February 7th!!!  Can't wait!

Emotional part of my week:
This week has been a bit different at work.  We keep getting patients who are not really "cardiac" patients but it has given me some experience on treating different disease processes!  On Sunday night, one of my co-worker's had a patient that was quickly going down hill.  She was bleeding internally and eventually passed away.  The patient was aware that she probably wasn't going to make it through the night (craziness!!!) and called her family.    They changed her "code" status to only comfort care and she quickly went down hill in a matter of 12 hrs.  Towards then end, we knew it was going to happen and we watched her heart rate on the monitor slowly go from 70's to 20's then eventually...nothing!  So sad.  With the new law, 2 RN's can pronounce someone instead of needing a doctor, so I went in with my co-worker and pronounced her dead.

Never in my life have I experienced that as a nurse.  I have experienced death in the family but it gave me a different perspective to be outside helping others.  Truly amazing to be apart of something so powerful and to comfort others.

2nd day in a row....another sad case *lol*  This time I was graced with a cancer patient.  She was pretty much in her last stages of cancer and I was able to care for her.  Made me so gracious for my health and my ability to help her in simple ways as she was dealing with her disease process and pneumonia.  She definitely touched my heart a bit and was happy my shift wasn't too hectic so I could spend a lot of time making her comfortable.

Even though I complain about my job and hours and such but on days like this it makes me so happy to be a nurse and to know that I have the ability to help others in ways most people can't.  It shows that I made the right choice to be in the right profession for me! =)
