We had the most fun today at Sullivan's Island! The 1 hr and 40 minutes was worth it =) Kate and I have been reading books by Dorothea Benton Frank and have fallen in love with Sullivan's Island. 2 years ago, we drove to it and walked along the beach on our way to Charleston but this vacation, we decided to plan a day trip and spend the day there!
Best.idea.ever!!! =)
Brace yourself, there are tons of pictures! This isn't even all of them
Walking to the beach
sand dunes
our little set up in paradise
If you look closely, you can see a sand bar. It stretched for a few miles. We saw a bunch of people walking along and swimming/wading to get to it so I convinced Doug into heading over there! Once we walked across the water (the deepest was waist deep) we arrived and it was so beautiful! The tide was out so there was a huge area to walk along.
The water was literally as warm as bath water, if not warmer!
And then we started finding the neatest treasures!!!
So neat =) We saw so many neat shells along with hermit crabs
So after awhile, we decided to head back! Since the tide was still out, we found a really shallow path and walked back. Since it was lunch time, we decided to eat lunch at Poe's Tavern!
Doug with his parents
There's nothing better than sweet tea!
The Barker's
the yummiest grilled chicken salad with guacamole!
Yum!
After lunch, we got dessert at a yummy little bakery and then headed back to the beach for round 2.
We convinced Doug's parents to walk over to the sand bar to find more treasures.
Doesn't he just look so cute in that hat?!?
We found crabs
And so many STARFISH!!!
No starfish was harmed during the pictures =)
Once we were finished, the tide was coming in so the water was a bit deeper and rougher. Kate and I squealed as we stepped on questionable things in the murky sand and as we saw fish jumping in the water (that meant something was chasing them! Yikes) As we were almost back to the beach, Doug was bit on the foot by a crab *lol*
We had the best time!!!
Definitely plan to win the lottery and buy a house on Sullivan's Island!
All our treasures!
