Last day as a cardiac RN!!!

Playing at little catch-up with my posts =)

On August 18, I had my last day as a cardiac RN!
I had recently accepted a position as a postpartum RN on the Mother-Infant Unit at Riverside Hospital.  I have always wanted this job and was so happy I landed it just a little over a year after I obtained my RN degree!

I will miss my 3 Heart co-workers and they were so sweet to throw me a little party before I left.
The brought me Panera for my dinner and a yummy cake!

We had already started eating it before I took a picture haha

These sweet girls brought me panera!

so sweet...

Some of the most awesome ladies you can work with!!

Amanda and I!
This wonderful lady was my preceptor on night shift!
From day 1, we meshed and ended up both bring pregnant and having our little girls just 3 months apart =)

This wonderful chapter has come to a close and I'm so excited to see what new adventures are to come!

We survived our first day!!!

Today was a big change in the barker household! Most everyone I know has their kids starting school but not us!! This momma started her new job today on the mother-baby unit and Iris had her first full day at the sitters! She usually goes once or twice a month for 3 hrs but with my training being 7-3:30pm Mon-Fri, she has to go 4 times a week for the next 4 weeks!

I was so nervous as to how she would do and I was worried sick over the fact that she might not do well and I didn't want her crying and being unhappy for 8 long hours!

I quickly ran out of the hospital come 3:30p and couldn't wait to pick her up! Dolly said she did well!! She even had some tummy time with another baby and smiled and interacted with the other kids! Only had a small problem...she blew out her diaper *lol* (momma had seafood this weekend and I don't think iris's belly enjoyed it bc she pooped several times today!!!)

Iris must have played hard bc she took a 2 hr nap in her boppy (which she never does) and was ready for bed after her feeding!!!! Daddy didn't even have time to swaddle her before she passed out and so I'm anxious to see how long she will sleep unswaddled!!

So, we jumped over another big hurdle and survived!!! =)

Oh and my first day went well!!!! I just observed the nurse mainly but I did watch a circumcision (ouch!) and performed a heel stick on a fresh new born and gave her a shot of vitamin K! I know....mean nurse! But it was wonderful to play with the babies and empower new mom's!!!

Tomorrow is a new day full of adventure! Hope iris has another great day!!! Wednesday, my mom is watching her so she can have the comforts of being at home!!!

IV's

I have been getting lots and lots of practice with IV's lately and I have been having so much fun!  (I know...most of you are cringing)  I love a good challenge so I'm very please with myself when I get it on the first try!  which has been happening the last 5 or 6 times!!!

One patient had one that infiltrated (fluids oozing into the skin rather than into the vein) so I had to replace it.  It was inserted by the IV specialist team so I was a bit nervous trying her.  She said she was stuck multiple times before they got it and then it went bad.  So I tried and got it on the first try!!!!  Woohoo!

I even had a patient tell me this week that it was painless!
Fantastic!
